Easter. Or is it??
What is Semana Santa?
Semana Santa is like Spanish easter. But instead of the easter bunny giving out chocolates, people's godfathers make them a cake and their godmothers get a palm frond and put little gifts on it like lollies, toys and anything else small that the child would like!
What was the coolest thing you saw during Semana Santa?
The pasos (floats) were my favourite thing because they moved around the streets with decorations and bands following them!
What are pasos (floats) and how do they move?
Like I have said, the floats are big movable platforms with statues of religious people on them and bands around them. But I didn't tell you how they moved so let me tell you now . . . they . . . are . . . carried !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine that? Tons of weight on like 10 people, being carried around the streets at night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are there any other parts of the procession you need to talk about?
Si, there are also these people that go around with pointy hats. The reason they do so is because they want to keep their faces secret and the hats are pointy to get closer to god.
What does Semana Santa sound like?
Semana santa is actually really loud because there's the music, the people following the floats and the candle wax that make a really annoying sound when you step on it! Squeak, squeak!
What is the creepiest part of Semana Santa?
The creepiest thing about semana santa is that people used to walk around with chains on them and used to crawl miles and miles on the road so there knees would bleed!!!!!!! ( they don't do it now!)
How can you tell where the pasos (floats) have been?
You can tell where they have been by the wax on the road that makes your shoes squeak!
What happened for you on Easter Sunday?
We woke up and because we are Australians, the easter bunny came to us and gave us a packet with a chocolate bunny and some eggs each! But the bunny also gave us 14 more little eggs each but they were hidden around our apartment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then because we don't have godparents, I made a cake for Esther and she made one for me (but mine was fudge because I don't really like cake).
Word of the post: huevos = eggs
Wow! Those Spanish people must be pretty strong to carry those massive floats! The cakes you and Essie made for each other look delicious! Wonder if the wax will have gone from the roads by Easter next year? Love Nana and Farber xx
