NANA & FARBER!!!!!

OK. Nana and Farber came to Spain today and I want to tell you all about it... but we did so much that it would be night before your finished! So I'm going to do this like how I did Morocco, just tell you the highlights.

Nana & Farber arrived in Conil on the day of Daddy's birthday. It was a beautiful sunny day and very warm but unfortunately Nana & Farber didn't get to see any of that because they started the day in Barcelona on the other side of Spain and had to travel to Conil by two trains and a car! We were very excited to see them and the more we got ready for them the more excited we got! But we had to wait a really loooooooong time! Finally at 10.30 in the night we decided they must be nearly here so we went down to the beach to see if we could spot them come in. After excitedly waving down some cars that turned out not to be them (Oooops!) we were give a clue that Nana & Farber had finally arrived when we spotted a car coming down the wrong side of the road!!!! It was them!!!

It was amazing i was sooo soooo so happy to see them! I could not wait to show them around!

When we all got up to our apartamento we quickly gave them a tour and then had a Spanish dinner (lots of jamon and olives) at Spanish dinner time (11.30!). We didn't go to bed until after midnight!

Day 1:

Showing them Conil

We woke up pretty late the next day and it was pretty windy but that was ok. After Pan de Catalan for breakfast (just olive oil and balsamic for me) we showed them around Conil. They loved the little alleyways (callejons) and seeing our school. It was lovely showing them our town and Farber bought some delicious churros and chocolate from the little churros stand :)

Zahara de los Atuns

After showing them conil we decided to have a swim. Our favourite beach near Conil (Cala de Aceite) was too windy so we drove along the coast until we reached Zahara de los Atuns. A beachy town with a lovely beach and usually a pretty good view of Morocco.... There we put on our wetsuits and went for a swim! The water was lovely in the sun but the storms had washed away all the sand and there was a big drop off!

We had lunch at El Palmer (the surf beach near Conil) before doing a tour of all the supermarkets in Conil trying to find some Vermut!

Day 2:

Bolonia

Today we took them to some of our favourite places near Conil. First stop Bolonia. In Bolonia we showed them the roman ruins ( they thought they were pretty cool ), and the quesaria (with the cute goats), where we brought some goats cheese. We wanted to show them the huge vultures we had seen last time we were here but unfortunately the crazy wind seemed to be keeping them away because we could only see a few... Then we were off again!

Tarifa

We ended up in Tarifa! There we just had a look around the town. while we were looking we found this really cool shop it had T shirts, crotched sea animals and heaps more. But what caught my eye was these mini wooden houses! I loved them so much that mumma braught one for me! yay!   We had lunch at a cafe in the old town (my lunch was last again!!! and everyone one had finished before mine even came so I had to take mine 'llevar' (to go)`and then we decided to battle the wind and walk to the beach. The beach was even windier than town (Tarifa is actually famous for being windy) but that was cool because there were some kiter surfers in the water and they were getting massive air!!! Like flying 100m off a wave before touching down again. We watched them for a while and then got sick of the sand stinging our legs and we headed back to the car.

Castillo de Castellar

For our final stop we took them to this tinsy tinsy tinsy village inside the walls of a medieval castle. It only took us like half an hour to see the whole thing. So your probably thinking that there wasn't much to see, well your right! There were only 2 main things that stood out to me the square with a orange tree in the middle and this deck with really pretty view. Even though it doesn't sound like much, we all LOVED it. We also saw vultures really close up! And monarch butterflies!

Day 3:

Conil

Today we really wanted to go for a swim at Conil but once again it was crazy windy :( We looked at the water but it didn't look very fun so instead we went on this walk together. We went to this old tower called Torre de Castilnovo where they used to look for tuna out of.

But now it belongs to the birds! One of the birds that live there is called a Bald headed ibis. They are reeeeaaaaly rare. So when we found them we were really exited.

Cadiz

We also took them to cadiz. I wanted to show them everything so we hopped out of the car and headed for the city. We were hungry for lunch, so first stop was the Mercado de Abastos (city market) where we each got something different from one of the stalls. Daddy got swordfish! After lunch we started to see a lot more things like cathedrals, sculptures y mas. One of the things we went in was the roman theater! This took us like 45 minutes to do but it was worth it. Nana and Farber loved seeing the architecture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Next we showed them the fort thing. They quite liked but it would have been better if it wasn't so windy so we left for the car.

Jerez

Next we took  them to jerez but not because we wanted to show them jerez but because Esther had skateboarding lessons there! So we dropped her and mummy of at the skate center and w went to the best place in the world the one and only...

IKEA !!! I was the tour guide of corse! I don't think it was very interesting for them but that's fine because I loved it but we couldn't stay forever 😭 bye bye ikea hola Esther 🖐.

Come hope in the car. Adio jerez.

Day 4:

Sevilla

Next we took them to Seville. Esther and I showed them the cathedral, the river, Las Setas, our favorite shops and more. Mumma and Dadda were off getting our NEW CAR! Nana and Farber really liked the tiles. We met up with Mumma and Dadda and we showed them Plaza de Espana. We had done so much and it was really warm so we went to our apartment to have a rest for a bit. Then....

...when we had had a rest we went back out (it was now nearly 7pm) and we went in this restaurant got some drinks and yummy cheese... then, 'wow its gone dark!' What's happening?' Something was  going on on the stage in front of of us. People were coming out and the lights went back on and they showed us some.  . .

FLAMENCO DANCING!!!!! IT WAS AMAZING! They were doing awesome moves!!!!

But it did look like they were in pain when they sang and danced😜

Unfortunately it couldn't last forever. So when it was one we went and got some dinner then went home to go to sleep.

GOOODBYE!!!!

It was time to say good bye    nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

but it had to happen. So we walked them to bus station  to say good bye 😢

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ( earrings - pendientes en Espanol)

But the day wasn't done! After Nana and Farber left we went on a hunt for a pharmacy that would pierce our ear's !!!

It took us awhile to find one but we did in the end. I went first. It hurt a bit but I got over it. Esther was next. She wasn't so sure if she wanted them done or not but she did! (I thought she would only get one ear done!!!)

Then we went home via a town called Dos Hermanas (Two Sisters) a really fun adventure park , a garden full of birds and a ... massive dragon bridge yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Word of the week    viajar = travel

  1. We had the best time Astrid! You and Essie are such amazing tour guides and you can't even imagine how much we loved spending time with you all and seeing the amazing area you live in. Thank you so much for your fantastic interpreting for us. I don't know what we would have bought if you hadn't been there to do the translations :). Also, Nana loved IKEA :) We think Conil is a brilliant place to live... the only problem is that it's so far from us. We miss you all so much! Lots of love Nana and Farber xx

  2. Actually, while it's true I was driving on the wrong side of the road when we got to Conil, I'd managed to stay on the right side all the way from Seville :) I think I was just so excited to see you that I forgot what I was doing for a moment (that's my excuse anyway :)
