SCHOOL
Hey guys! Guess what??? We have started school here and I want to tell you some of the most important things about it (tips, differences, similarities!)!!!
1. Schools in Spain don't let you know what you need to buy before you start. This is annoying because you don't have what you need and your mum needs to go shopping for something else every day!
2. Our schools name is Los Bateles! Los Bateles is the name of the beach in Conil.
3. Always ask everyone there name on the first day... maybe even more than once! (I missed out on this one :( )
4. Be prepared for hard names! For example some of my friends names are Lura and Guadalupe (in English I think you will spell it like Walalupe with a accent over the E ) and Carla!!!
5. Some lessons are called something else for example at my school there is E.F.= PE
C.M. = Inquiry
Musica= Music
MATEM. = Maths
Lengua = Literacy
6. School finishes at a different time here, so after school you can do more stuff. For example we have done: skateboarding, rock climbing, seen flamingos and more!!!
7. Be ready to make roman costumes and pay like 30 euro to go on excursions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8. Make sure you always have time after school for home work (they give you some like every day!!!)
9. Get prepared to use some one else's things if yours haven't arrived yet.
10. In Bateles, the play ground is split up into 3 different parts. 1 for the little kids. 1 for grade 3s up and another one for in the middle.
11. You put your bag next to you or behind you in the classroom.
12. The youngest kids in the school are only 3 years old!
13. Be prepared for some things to be different in maths. For example they do division and take aways differently!
14. The people are really nice and try to make sure you are included, even if you can't speak to them.
15. Speaking of the people, so many people speak lots of languages here! In my class people speak Ukrainian, English, Spanish (of course), Dutch and German. There might even be more!!
So that is about it. Now you are ready to come to Los Bateles with me!
WAIT! I forgot something!
WORD OF THE WEEK: Escuela = school.
School sounds so different to back here Astrid. It just shows how amazing you and Esther are that you are able to enjoy school anyway! You will sure have some stories to tell your Aussie classmates when you come back home :) I taught a boy a couple of years ago who moved from New Zealand. He couldn't believe that he didn't have to buy his own pencils and paper! I think we're very lucky to have our huge playgrounds in Australian schools, but I sure like the idea of finishing the day at 2pm! Woohoo! Lots of love Nana and Farber xx

DeleteInteresting to learn how school is different in another place. Glad you've made some friends, I wouldn't have had a clue how to pronounce their names! Love the look of your route to school :)
